You also have a range of gear such as calls, scents, and bait to try and lure an animal to just where you want them. There is a great selection of guns that you can use, you can actually take two with you on a hunt which I liked. Locked & Loadedĭeer Hunter 2005 does not mess around when it comes to your gear. There is a great selection of deer for you to hunt down as well as some larger prey if you are willing to do the leg work, but these are much, much harder to come by so that can be a tad on the frustrating side if you ask me. Texas, Michigan, Idaho, Montana, British Columbia, and Mexico (as well as a New York shooting range) all have their own distinct style and feel huge. You have some great locations to hunt in here. It is a pretty cool idea and a mode later games would improve upon. I've been hoping that for almost a year now.The other mode is Hunting Season where you actually get to manage a deer herd where you take care of them, plant the crops, and thin out the ones that are not good enough for you. I hope these features will be implemented over time and that the bugs will be squashed.
It IS worth to play COTW, but it feels buggy and unfinished and does not really live up to the many features that are present in DH2005. Overall I say COTW is a mixed bag, but it is the only modern game that comes close to DH2005 except for TheHunter but that one is pay to play. While some of this may be adressed in the future, it is worth mentioning that people have been complaining about these bugs for quite some time now. The worst being the teleporting wildlife and the risk of loosing ALL your progress. Other than that, there are a few bugs that totally destroy the gameplay. It was a long wait, but finally COTW came along and it looked like this was my dream comming true a modern "realistic" hunting game.Īt first glance the game delivers the same realistic feel of Deer Hunter 2005, but as much as I like COTW I need to be honest: COTW is fun, but extremely buggy and lacking in basic features that were present in DH2005. All other hunting games are arcade style, but I was looking for realism. The whole reason why I bought COTW was based on those memories. It has been years since I played Deer Hunter 2005, but I have very fond memories of it. Very beautiful, especially if you like snow landscapes. There is also a new big hunting map set in the Siberian Taiga which came out recently. There is also some paid DLC you can buy, one tent DLC that lets you place tents anywhere on the map that act as mini outposts and have the same functionality, a DLC that gives you a ATV to drive around on, useful to exploring the map but too loud and scares of animals. I played for around 85 by now and barely finished exploring the maps andīasically just used one weapon category so far. Game has a dynamic day/night cycle and a weather system.

Never played Deer Hunter 2005 so i cant compare them.īut this is a pretty realistic hunting simulation, meaning its not unusual to walk around or track a animal for 25-30 minutes before you get to shoot.
